Les Ourtets, in the village of Cuxac-Cabardès, offers reasonably priced self-catering and bed and breakfast accommodation.
Situated in the midst of the Pays Cathare, just a few miles north of the medieval city of Carcassonne in the South of France, it is ideally located to explore the wooded hills of the Montagne Noire/Cabardès area, the rugged landscape of the Minervois, the Cathare castles and the coastal lagoons of the Mediterranean. Carcassonne became a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

Accommodation

SELF-CONTAINED FLAT INSIDE HOUSE
The flat consists of 4 bedrooms (maximum 6/7 people), large bathroom with shower, WC, fully equipped kitchen with dining area. Sheets and towels provided. Water, electricity and heating included.
Please note that smoking is not allowed in the house.

General Advice

Remember travel insurance and your E111 form if you come from an EEC country in case you have to see a doctor. In your luggage, think of sun tan lotion, sun glasses, some warm and waterproof clothing (evenings can be chilly, even in full summer, in the mountains), walking shoes and a cap.

Brochures, maps, books are at your disposal for the duration of your stay. Please do not hesitate to ask for advice on places of interests, things to do and where to go—I might be able to help!

Transport

France is a very large country, where public transport is rare outside big towns. However Carcassonne is well connected by roads, motorways, trains, and an international airport (London Stanstead). Toulouse (1h15mn by road) is the other airport to consider (Manchester, Birmingham, London, and many other European cities large and small). But in order to really appreciate this area in its diversity, a car or rented car is strongly recommended.

Finding Us And Parking

Coming from Carcassonne, take the direction towards MAZAMET (D118) and follow that direction through various roundabouts. Keep going on the D118, until you get to Cuxac-Cabardès , about 25km from Carcassonne.
As you come into Cuxac, you will see on your right, just after the sign « Cuxac-Cabardès », a house called "Passage à l'Acte". Just after that house, on the right hand-side, you will see a narrow and steep lane indicating « Plaine de Cazelles par chemin piétonnier ». «  Les Ourtets » as indicated on a slate is about 50m up at the end of the lane (red shutters).
If you turn right just after « Passage à l’Acte », you will see a small carpark on the right by the Sapeurs Pompiers.
